#samenmakenweeenverschil

In 2006 we planned to to a 10 day trekking along the Kungleden route in Sweden. After about 4 days we got stuck in a heavy storm with winds gusting up to 140 km's an hour and windchills down to -30°C. We called for an evacuation and the Storlien fire department came to rescue us. After some days of rest we left again to continue with the trekking. It was an intense but positive experience after all.
In 2005 we travelled through Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Montenegro, Kosovo and Serbia. In short: the former Yougoslavia. We never intended to follow the trace of the war. But there is no way around it. Once you leave the beaten tracks, the tourist beaches,… you will be confronted with war and what it does to a country. This happened in our backyard… I suggest everybody to go and visit these countries. Learn from (recent) history!

Firefighters from several fire departments came to a RIT training day. Main focus was on fireground survival, air management and mayday procedure.
The trainees were asked to evaluate the day so that the used exercises can be improved if needed. Instructors were Thierry Lefrancq and Pieter Maes.
Thanks to the guys form the different fire departments for being there: Leuven, Namur and Liege.
Hopefully these trainings can be available for all interested firefighters or departments in the near future.
German Berckmans, a firefighter at the Brussels Fire Department, made two Dollhouses to exercise in using them. The goal is to visualize typical fire behavior and rapid fire progress with real fire and smoke.
Quite often the pictures show a sequence of action and consequence. The opening of a 'door' or 'window' on the first picture and the result on the next picture. It is fair to say that this also happens with real fires if you are not careful about these phenomena.
